Our Farm

We began operating as a dairy farm when we first moved to the Island, and it wasn't long after that that we undertook the challenge of converting our conventional farm to a certified organic farm. In September of 2007 we received the distinction of becoming the first certified milk producers on P.E.I. We have, in past years, scaled back the milk production aspect of our farm operation, having retained only four milking cows. Our present focus is on diversifying and adding to our certified organic offerings, on launching our new brand, Laura Leigh Organics, getting the Farm Gate Store going and giving special attention to promoting our Meat CSA.

We want to make it as easy to purchase healthy organic food as it is to go into a local grocery store, where the food has been transported thousands of miles to get to its destination. It is disconcerting not knowing where you food comes from, how the animals are treated, what they are fed, what chemicals your produce has been exposed to and whether the seeds used to grow it are genetically modified or not....what is all of this doing to our health? When you buy from us, you will know exactly how the food has been produced; in some cases you will be able to pick it yourself, fresh off the land!  It is with these goals in mind that we have set up our new Meat CSA Program; please view our page and get more information on how you can purchase ethically-raised, local meat from Laura Leigh Organic Farms.

We know people are pressed for time; our answer to this has been the creation of this website, providing you with the information you need to buy local, healthy, and organic at your convenience.

As a family and as local producers we are also very much about education' farm tours will be offered on a "by appointment" basis during appropriate times of the year, when you can come visit us and see how we do things.  You can also make arrangements with us to raise a bunny rabbit or chicken to maturity (see this page for details). We are working on our own line of prepared foods, we sell at a local farmer's market and are also excited about our new Meat CSA Program.  We are always looking for new things to try and invite you to support your local organic farm movement!

Small Animal Care

Here is an excellent opportunity to teach your children how to care for animals.  We'll provide you with everything you need to bring up a chicken or rabbit.

Raise A Chicken!

If you choose a chicken, we'll provide you with an incubator, eggs, egg turners, a thermometer, and even some starter food for the new hatchling.

Raise A Bunny Rabbit!

If you choose a bunny, we'll provide you with a cage complete with a tray underneath it.  The bunny also comes with a food pellet holder (you supply the pellets) and a nest box. Three months after the bunnies are born, we'll take them back to the farm for the summer months.  During this time, I'll bring a male and re-breed the bunny about a week after the baby bunnies have returned to the farm.

The price for one year is $100.00 for the chickens, and $80.00 for the bunny. Contact us to make arrangements, and see how rewading it is to raise animals and watch them grow as a result of your care!
